Local Design Chat with Matt

We are pleased to bring you the first of what we hope to turn into an ongoing series of interviews with old friends and new friends in the Interior Design world. We want to start reaching out to folks in the Interior Design community, as well as individuals in related niches to our industry.

Our first interview was recorded was recorded with our good friend and colleague, Matt Bissinger. He is the owner of Maker & Moss, an independent home goods showroom, located in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Prior to starting Maker & Moss, Matt had a home goods business in Pacific Heights, called Bae.

If you’ve never visited Maker & Moss in San Francisco, this showroom carries a small handful of USA-made upholstery lines. They also feature case goods, dining tables and chairs, along with select lighting, throws, artwork, tabletop goods, local ceramics and small home-related gifts. We would describe Maker & Moss as a mix of laid-back California classic casual, mixed with a bit industrial edge and soft organic accents.

The physical space that Maker & Moss inhabits is tucked behind Project Juice Test Kitchen on Hayes Street. According to Matt the building was previously a men’s gym. It has wonderful high ceilings with wooden beams and a warm brick wall that lends to it’s industrial loft feel. If you are not in the area, they also have a great online store.

Please join us to hear how Matt’s business evolved and shifted in 2020, in the wake of a our Global pandemic.

As you may know, the past few years and specifically 2020 have forced several independent furniture stores and showrooms to sadly close their doors. Please let us know if you have any favorite Bay Area furniture showrooms that you would like to know more about. We have a few ideas, but we would would love to hear from you. Drop us a comment and we’ll see if we can get them on our interview schedule sometime in 2021.
